Fashions on the field
The key to racing style is to be appropriate and comfortable. Choose an outfit that will flatter you best and you’re on your way to a winning look.
- When selecting an outfit for your special event, consider the length and fit of your dress as well as the environment you’ll be in. You may need to carry a light jacket or cute cardigan on a cooler day;
- Comfort is critical when it comes to selecting foot wear. If you’re planning to wear new shoes, try and wear them in before heading to the track to avoid blisters and general soreness;
- When selecting your accessories, consider the colours you’ll be wearing in your outfit as well as the style of your fascinator. If you’ve selected an extravagant or detailed headpiece, simple accessories will ensure your headpiece makes its intended statement. If your headpiece is delicate and simple, then more elaborate jewellery is appropriate;
- Consider the duration of your event, as well as post event activities, when selecting a hand bag. Clutches may be chic, but it’ll be a lot easier to balance your champagne and camera with a shoulder bag.
Wearing your fascinator
All pieces in the Fascination collection have been designed to compliment all types of hair styles.
For those who are new to wearing fascinators, here are some tips for placing and securing your piece so it stays where it’s supposed:
- A fascinator that’s designed on a clip or comb is ideally positioned on the right side of the head with veiling or a flower feature resting just above your eye;
- Feather or floral pieces on a comb or clip can also look fantastic when placed next to a low ponytail or styled bun at the back of your head;
- If you decide to wear your hair straight or curled, isolate a small section of hair and pin it back. Spray the area with hairspray and insert the comb of the fascinator about half way between the front and the back of your head and glide it forward;
- For additional hold, secure your fascinator with bobby pins around the top of the base. Try and use bobby pins that are the same colour to the base of the fascinator so they’re harder to see;
- If you’re worried about wind messing with your hair, consider styling your hair in a low side ponytail so your look is consistent throughout the day.
